We strongly advise leaving your road bike at home. You will not enjoy riding it on this course.
Navigating the North Pole Triathlon bike course
From the transition area, take the paved bike trail to the stop sign at Lawrence Road.
Turn right and ride ON THE SHOULDER not the paved road (to provide space between you and vehicles).
After the closed check-in hut, cross the road to climb onto the dike. WATCH FOR CARS; we are not allowed to stop traffic.
Continue along the dike to the next ramp that goes left down into the floodplain.
At the bottom of the hill (watch for loose gravel), take a right onto the obvious vehicle-wide lane.
If the pond is still there, you may veer right and weave through the dried cattails trail until it returns to the lane. Optional.
Continue until nearly reaching the Richardson Highway.
Turn left onto the obvious gravel lane.
Turn left again to return to the main trail.
Follow the main trail.
Anywhere there's a fork in the road, take the right.
When the main trail heads left back to dike access #1, go right instead onto a less worn trail. There may be several large tires piled there.
Proceed about three-quarters of a mile to the turnaround point. That's 6.5 miles.
Backtrack the entire route back to the transition area. After leaving the dike do not cross Lawrence Road. Ride on the right shoulder with traffic until turning left onto Lake Park Road bike trail.
Reminder: we'll have an optional bike course preview on Saturday, July 18 at 11 am at the transition area. Be ready to depart promptly at 11. We'll go slow and stick together.

Note the turnaround tepee on the left (2024). It's likely gone now but there's also survey tape in the trees on the right.
The least-used portion of the course, the last 3/4 mile to the turnaround
