North Pole gravel bike course REVISED FOR 2024 AS OF MARCH 27
Construction strikes again! The bike trail along the dike road will be dug up to replace culverts this summer so we had to get creative again for a bike route.
We recommend a gravel bike, cyclocross, or mountain bike for a nontechnical ride - anything that doesn't have skinny tires. Do not bring your road bike or time trial bike.
The course will involve leaving the transition area and riding the bike trail out to the "east seepage channel road" a.k.a. dirt road at the slough. Stay on that slough and follow it to the end at the weir. Turn around and come back to the temporary construction bridge. An out and back between bridge and weir is one lap. You are doing four laps. After the fourth one, continue back along the dirt road to return to the transition area. We will have a person at the construction bridge to monitor construction traffic but we will not stop traffic. Near this person will be something (we haven't figured out what yet) you will pick up or be marked with to count each lap.
The entire course will be open for public use during our race. Please use caution and remain alert for pedestrians, loose dogs, toddlers, etc.
We will do our best to mark the course, but racers are accountable to be familiar with the route. We’ll host an easy/slow course preview bike ride on Saturday, June 8 at 11 am starting at the East Lake Park parking area (our transition area). Be ready to start at 11 am sharp.
